According to rankings in recent years, the state university in Zilina takes an honorable fourth place in the list of the best universities in Slovakia. As part of university programs, students study both technical and humanities. The university cooperates with more than 150 foreign universities, which allows students to participate in student mobility projects, ERASMUS+. • Applicants from gymnasiums who received the average arithmetic score of the annual certificate for the penultimate year of study (not the final year) will be admitted without an entrance exam:

up to 2.00 inclusive for educational programs:

• Applicants from secondary vocational schools, combined schools and academies who have received the average arithmetic score of the annual certificate for the penultimate year of study will be admitted without an entrance exam:

up to 1.60 inclusive for educational programs:

up to 2.00 inclusive for educational programs:
• Road transport (specialization in road transport, specialization in expert activity in road transport)
• Rail transport
• Aviation transport (specialization: aviation transport, specialization: professional pilot)

The remaining applicants take an entrance exam.

Entrance examination

The entrance exam is a test based on school material. Questions cover general knowledge, mathematics, and a selected foreign language (English, Spanish, German, French, or Russian).

• Applicants to the Aviation Transport program (Air Transport or Professional Pilot specialization) who hold a glider pilot license, other airworthiness certificate, or an aircraft mechanic qualification receive +10 bonus points.

• Foreign applicants must successfully pass a language test in Slovak with a minimum level of B1. The test is administered within the specified timeframes listed on the ÚCV UNIZA website. Successful completion is a prerequisite for admission. If an applicant has already taken such a test within the last 5 years, the result will be accepted.

• Applicants to the Aviation Transport (Professional Pilot) program must provide a Class 1 medical certificate of airworthiness (issued in accordance with PART-FCL 1).

Faculty of Civil Engineering

As part of accreditation, the faculty received the right to carry out the educational process in 4 undergraduate educational programs. The main task of the faculty is to contribute to the development of education, science, and culture in Slovakia. Train specialists in the field of construction, applied mechanics, and geodesy.

• Confirmation of knowledge of the Slovak language at level B1 in the form of a certificate or passing a test from the university

• Those who have fulfilled at least one of the following conditions will be admitted without an entrance exam:

a) applicants who received an average grade point average in all subjects over the last three pre-graduation (pre-profile) years of study in secondary school of up to and including 2.4;

b) applicants who took the External Independent Assessment in mathematics in the current academic year and received a grade of at least 3;

c) applicants who took the NPS (SCIO) tests in General Academic Prerequisites or Mathematics in the current academic year and achieved a percentile of at least the 60th.

• Anyone who does not meet any of the above conditions must take an entrance exam in the form of a test in school mathematics and general knowledge.

Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

The main focus of the faculty's research and teaching activities is on information and communication technologies, modern telecommunication technologies, the development of power electronic systems and modern management of electrical networks. At the same time, new interdisciplinary programs are being developed - mechatronics and biomedical engineering.

• Entrance examination on general overview and knowledge acquired during secondary school education, as well as on school mathematics

• For the Multimedia Technologies curriculum, entrance examinations are held in two stages:
– the first stage is the same as for all other educational programs;
The second stage consists of an in-person entrance interview before the Admissions Committee. It is recommended that you prepare your own portfolio.

• An applicant who has taken the NPS (SCIO) tests in General Education Prerequisites or Mathematics in the current academic year and scored at least in the 60th percentile will be admitted without entrance examinations.

• If the applicant does not meet this requirement, he/she must take an entrance exam on school material aimed at testing basic knowledge in natural, technical and social disciplines

• An applicant who has passed the NPS (SCIO) tests in General Education Prerequisites or Mathematics in the current academic year and scored at least in the 60th percentile will be admitted without entrance examinations.

• If the applicant does not meet this requirement, he/she must take an entrance exam, which includes questions on mathematics (logic, problems), Slovak language (grammar, vocabulary), and general social knowledge (current events in Slovakia and the world)

• Certificate of knowledge of the Slovak language at least at level B1

The main requirement for admission to the 1st level (bachelor's degree) is complete general secondary education or complete secondary vocational education.

Additional conditions:

• Summary

• The following students will be admitted without an entrance exam:
a) applicants who have taken the external part of the Matura in mathematics or the NPS (SCIO) tests in mathematics
and received a percentile of at least 60;
b) applicants who have taken the NPS (SCIO) tests on general academic prerequisites
and received a percentile of at least 70.

• Other applicants who do not meet the conditions for admission without an exam are admitted based on the results of the entrance exam, which tests knowledge of school mathematics and the ability to think logically in general.

• Successful completion of the Slovak language test at a level of at least B1. The test is conducted within strictly defined deadlines published on the website of the UNIZA Institute for Continuous Education (ÚCV), before the date of the admissions process - 4.06.2026. A foreign applicant can take this test only once during a calendar year.

• A condition for admission of an applicant to study in educational programs accredited in the field of “computer science” is the ability to use a personal computer.

The mission of the Faculty of Humanities is to develop education, science and research in the spirit of the universal humanitarian traditions. The curriculum consists of a wide range of humanities disciplines, with an emphasis on the study of English language and literature.

The main condition for admission to the 1st level (bachelor) is the presence of complete general secondary education or complete secondary vocational education.

– specialty “Teaching English Language and Literature and Civic Education” written test in English language and civic science

– specialty “Mediamatics and cultural heritage” written test in Slovak language and literature, civil science and computer science

It is possible to enroll without exams in both specialties, provided the average score is 2.0 or lower according to the Slovak equivalent.
