Brief overview of universities in Kosice

Kosice is the second largest city in the country. Since the 12th century, its name has been mentioned in historical sources, known as a royal residence. And now it is recognized as a major educational and scientific center. Kosice is located in a very picturesque place. Nearby are the Black Mountain mountain range and the Gornad River. It is very interesting to live here, even if temporarily, only for the duration of your studies.

Sports competitions are held here, and there are enough architectural monuments, but more details, nevertheless, about educational institutions.

Dnepersk gymnasium

Let's start with Gymnazium Alejova or Dneper gymnasium. There is a 4-year option of study, and there is an 8-year option. Most enroll in a 4-year course, because the program here is designed for high school graduates (i.e. after 9th grade).

The 8-year program involves studying:

  • English (enhanced) and any other foreign language of your choice (German, French);
  • computer science (enhanced);
  •  robotics and even playing with Legos (with elementary school students);
  • elective subjects;
  • high-quality preparation specifically for admission to the chosen university.

Students have the opportunity to study in the courses “Self-Presentation and Social Skills” or “Interactive Environment and Programming”.

The second option provides:

  • Active development of functional literacy.
  • Acquiring a high level of communication skills.
  • Developing the ability to think logically, critically, and persistently.

The habit of working both individually and in a team.

The first option is to acquire useful skills in working with a variety of data and programs, and learn programming.

The director personally supervises the admission process. If your academic performance is good, you can only get by with an interview and passing a test in Slovak. If the grades on the report card were not very high, you will need to take mathematics and literature in addition to Slovak.

TUKE Technical University

This university has existed since 1762. Of course, not in the same form as it is now, but the “foundation” was laid precisely at the indicated time by the Empress of Austria-Hungary, Maria Theresa.

Initially, the program chosen was varied. Here they studied ordinary objects, the peculiarities of ore mining, and even the rules for the manufacture and processing of metal objects. Now the program is broader. The management of TU Kosice strives not only to prepare students well. It sees its mission in the formation of a sustainable and favorable future, a high quality of life for everyone. And it strives to contribute to this through the quality of education and research activities.

Studying in Kosice is very interesting. This is a great choice for the future!
