The Pavel Josef Safarik University in Kosice is one of the renowned and important educational and scientific institutions not only in the Slovak Republic, but also in Europe. At the moment, the university has such faculties as: medicine, natural sciences, law, public administration and the Faculty of Philosophy, which train specialists in the natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, teachers, lawyers, specialists in the field of public administration, philosophy, languages, psychology and social work. 

Graduates of this second oldest classical Slovak university have a good reputation in Slovakia and abroad.

The Faculty of Medicine is the oldest department of this university. It provides training in a variety of training programs in general medicine and dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy and public health. The Faculty has its own classrooms in several medical institutions, which allow students to have direct contact with the patient and modern methods of treatment, so teaching represents a unique connection between theory and practice. The quality teaching at this faculty provides a very good basis for the employment of its graduates in the labor market.

For the Physiotherapy program – a written test in biology and chemistry + a physical abilities test (gymnastics, 50 m run, 100 m swim).

The main condition for admission to a bachelor's degree is the presence of complete general secondary education or complete secondary vocational education.

1. British and American studies

Application deadline: March 31, 2026.

Each applicant is required to pass the General Academic Prerequisites (VŠP) test or the General Academic Prerequisites (GAP) test (for international applicants) no later than 25 April 2026.
Each applicant must confirm their knowledge of English with one of the following documents, issued no earlier than two years ago:

SCIO — English language test;

TOEFL iBT certificate with a score of over 95 points;

IELTS certificate with a score of more than 7 points;

Cambridge CAE certificate with a score of over 200 points.

2. English for European institutions and economies

The training is conducted according to a program focused on written and oral translation, with an emphasis on the English language and the possibility of choosing one of the following modules:
Module 1 - English Language and Culture
Module 2 — Modern Languages – French (designed for students who have passed the French language exam at level B1 or above or who hold the international language certificate FJ at level B1 or above).

The Philosophy program is implemented in combination with the possibility of choosing one of the modules:
• Module 1 – Philosophy and history of philosophy;
• Module 2 – Applied Ethics.

Every applicant applying for a program in combination with psychology is required to pass the General Academic Prerequisites Test (VŠP) conducted by www.scio.cz

Legal
faculty

The Faculty of Law of UPJS in Košice is one of the leading educational and research higher education institutions in Slovakia. The efforts of the faculty are aimed at educating graduates who, throughout their studies, acquire systematic knowledge from individual legal disciplines, public and private law. Students are able to apply the acquired knowledge in practice, and are able to navigate the legal order of Slovakia.

Introductory campaign

The main condition for admission to the 1st level of study (bachelor's degree) is the possession of a complete general secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education.

Additional conditions:

For the specialty "Law" the entrance exam consists of a written test
(history, fundamentals of law, logic, general overview) - 100 questions.

For the Law program (instruction in Slovak, French and English), the entrance exam includes:
— written test (history, fundamentals of law, logic, general overview — 100 questions);
— a written test in English and French — a total of 100 points (50 points for each language).

If an applicant has an average grade of up to and including 1.50 in the last three years of study in high school, he or she is admitted without entrance examinations.
Also applicants who have international certificates in English of at least level B2 or in French of at least level B1
(for example, TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, DELF), or those who have successfully passed the state language exam, are exempt from the written exam in foreign languages.

A foreign applicant is required to pass a Slovak language exam at a level of at least B2 using the ECL exam.

Prize winners and medalists of international sports competitions - European and World Championships, participants in the Olympic Games or the World University Games over the past 4 years - may be admitted without entrance examinations, provided that their average grade in their final secondary school reports and final exams is no more than 2.00.

The entrance exam consists of two parts:

theoretical part: written test on knowledge of human biology (school curriculum) and physical education;

Practical part: testing physical abilities.
