About the educational institution

The Catholic University is a young institution of higher education; over the 20 years of its activity, the university has trained more than 33,000 graduates in full-time and part-time bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. KU offers students the opportunity to study in four faculties: pedagogy, philosophy, theology and health care. The university carries out teaching and scientific activities mainly in the field of humanities, pedagogy, natural, social and medical sciences, as well as in the fields of art, economics and management. 

Since its establishment, the university has successfully participated in the international program of higher education institutions under the Erasmus+ program. Many foreign students choose Catholic University due to its relaxed student life, interesting studies, and incredibly beautiful nature.

The Faculty of Education is the third best pedagogical faculty in Slovakia. The faculty is in demand among foreign students, especially from the CIS countries. The PF trains future teachers, social workers, philologists, artists, managers, etc. The student also has the opportunity to study disciplines in combination with the Faculty of Philosophy, for example, Italian and English. Higher education at PF KU is based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which ensures compatibility with leading educational institutions and ensures student mobility between universities throughout the European Union.

Introductory campaign

The main requirement for admission to the 1st level (bachelor's degree) is complete general secondary education or complete secondary vocational education.

**Additional conditions:**
• In the case of pedagogical study programmes in which one subject is provided by the Faculty of Philosophy, it is necessary to fulfill the admissions campaign conditions established for this subject (the conditions are published on ff.ku.sk).
• For most educational programs, a motivational interview is conducted to assess the applicant’s motivation, interest in the chosen specialty, basic orientation in the field and personal qualities; the dates are April 22 and 29, 2026.
• For special education and education for people with intellectual disabilities, the entrance interview focuses on general knowledge, depth of interest in the specialty and level of oral communication; confirmed volunteer or assistant activities are an additional advantage; dates - April 27 and 28, 2026.
• For music education and music arts programs, a creative (talent) test is mandatory, including practical performance, a test in music theory, auditory analysis, intonation, basics of music history and an interview; the required level of preparation is not lower than a music school graduate; date - April 20, 2026.
• For fine arts, the creative test consists of a theoretical part on art history and practical creative work, as well as a portfolio presentation on various artistic disciplines; date: April 28, 2026.
• For physical education, a test of endurance and exercise technique is conducted; date - April 21, 2026.
• To enroll in the “Preschool and Primary Pedagogy” program, you must have medical confirmation of the ability to engage in physical education without restrictions and a certificate from a speech therapist stating the absence of speech disorders.
• To teach physical education, a medical certificate of full fitness for physical activity is required.
• For special education and education for people with intellectual disabilities, speech therapy confirmation of correct pronunciation and the absence of communication disorders is necessary.
• A foreign applicant must prove knowledge of the Slovak language at least at level A2 with a certificate or course completion certificate issued by an accredited language school or higher education institution in Slovakia; in the absence of such confirmation, he or she must take the entrance exam in the Slovak language at level A2.

Faculty of Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy is one of the best faculties in the field of humanities education in Slovakia, as evidenced by positive ratings from the accreditation commission. The flexible structure of education at the faculty allows you to choose study programs and subjects, and independently adjust your schedule.

An applicant for teacher training may select one combination of two subjects in their application: either programmes offered by the Philosophical Faculty of KU independently (English language and literature, history, civic education and philosophy, Slovak language and literature in various combinations), or programmes offered jointly by the Philosophical and Pedagogical Faculties of KU (combinations of these subjects with biology, geography, mathematics, computer science, chemistry, music, fine arts, physical and religious education).

The main requirement for admission to the 1st level (bachelor's degree) is complete general secondary education or complete secondary vocational education.

Additional conditions:

• For the specialties "English and American Studies", "English and American Studies - Philosophy", "English and American Studies - History", "Teaching English Language and Literature (in combination with a second subject)" an entrance exam is held in the form of an oral interview (possibly online). The interview is held in Slovak and English, tests cultural and social knowledge, motivation and proficiency in the Slovak language of at least level A2. Exam date: March 30, 2026.

• The specialties “Philosophy”, “History”, “Philosophy – History”, “Teaching Civic Education and Philosophy (in combination)”, “Teaching History (in combination)” require proficiency in the Slovak language of at least level A2 and fulfillment of the admission conditions of the Faculty of Education, if one of the subjects is provided by it.

• For the specialty “Teaching Slovak Language and Literature (in combination with a second subject)”, applicants must confirm their knowledge of the Slovak language with a certificate of at least level B2.

• For the Psychology specialty, an entrance exam is held, consisting of a written test (human biology, fundamentals of psychology, general intellectual preparation, creativity, English language) and an oral interview (general outlook, motivation, proficiency in the Slovak language of at least level A2). Exam date: March 31, 2026.

• For the Journalism major, an entrance exam is held, which includes the assessment of two samples of original work and an oral interview on motivation and proficiency in the Slovak language of at least level A2. Exam date: April 1, 2026.

• The specialty “Teaching the educational field “Man and Society”” requires a certificate of knowledge of the Slovak language at level A2.

• For the specialty “Teaching the educational field of “Language and Communication””, an oral online interview is conducted in Slovak and English, which determines knowledge, personal and motivational prerequisites for learning; the date of the interview is March 30, 2026. A certificate of knowledge of the Slovak language at level B2 is also required.

Faculty

The Faculty of Health is the youngest faculty of the Catholic University of Ružomberka. Students do a lot of practice at a local hospital, which is equipped with modern equipment. The faculty includes the Department of Nursing, Emergency Medicine, Public Health, Physiotherapy, Laboratory Techniques and the Department of Radiological Technology. The cultural, scientific and educational life of students is based on humanistic and Christian principles.

**Additional conditions:**
• For the educational programs “Teaching Religious Education” and “Catholic Theology”, it is necessary to provide a recommendation from a priest at the place of permanent residence (for monastics - the abbot of the monastery), which confirms the candidate’s abilities and his Christian way of life.
• Entrance examinations for the Catholic Theology program are written and oral, and are required of all applicants. Knowledge and skills in general education subjects within the scope of the gymnasium program are required.
